Vaccines During Pregnancy
Vaccination is an important part of keeping you and your baby healthy during pregnancy. At Premier Care for Women, we follow the ACOG and CDC guidelines to recommend vaccines that are safe and beneficial for both mother and baby.
Why Are Vaccines Important?
During pregnancy, your immune system changes, and your baby’s immune system is still developing. Vaccines help protect you from certain infections and also provide your baby with early immunity that lasts for several months after birth.
Recommended Vaccines During Pregnancy
- Flu Vaccine (Influenza)
- Recommended during any trimester during flu season
- Protects against serious illness from influenza
- Safe for both mother and baby
- Tdap Vaccine (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis)
- Recommended between 27 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, preferably during each pregnancy
- Provides protection against whooping cough, which can be especially dangerous for newborns
- Helps pass protective antibodies to your baby before birth
- RSV Vaccine (Respiratory Syncytial Virus)
- Recommended for pregnant individuals between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy during RSV season (typically fall through spring)
- Helps protect newborns from severe RSV infection during the first few months of life
- A single dose is given during pregnancy and is not repeated in future pregnancies in the same season
- COVID-19 Vaccine
- Recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Reduces the risk of severe COVID-19 illness
- Safe and effective for both mother and baby
Other Vaccines
If you are not immune to certain infections, such as measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) or chickenpox (varicella), we will discuss a plan to vaccinate you after delivery, as these vaccines are not given during pregnancy.
